The XTrack platform is the result of a joint R&D effort between Xstrata Technology and VRT Systems. The Product Tracking System was designed to provide Xstrata Copper with the ability to track finished product inventory levels and provide traceability of individual bundles.

The key purposes of this are:

BMA's punch longwall underground operation on the Goonyella Riverside lease commenced longwall mining in August 2005.  Unlike most underground operations which rely on extensive, high cost development works, Broadmeadow accesses the seam direct into the highwall of an open cut pit on the Goonyella lease

In 2004, VRT took on the support of Alcan's Warehouse Management system in Gove. P-P-trak handles remote receiving in Darwin for all Alcan's purchasing requirements. Goods are then trans-shipped to Gove for storage and distribution from the central warehouse.

Copper Refineries Ltd (CRL), now owned by Xstrata, recently completed an expansion and upgrade of the tankhouse facilities at their Townsville plant in Australia.

Australian based Queensland Rail transports around 90 million tones of coal every year between 30 coal mines and export ports on the central Queensland coast. In the past, the tracking of individual consignments has been difficult, resulting in lost information and delayed billing.

In 2011, BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) initiated a project to provide large screens around their Gregory-Crinum Mine site to show mining operations from coal face to train load out. The screens have the ability to indicate whether each part of the operation is functioning or not and are able to provide "drill down" feature to the source of the problem if they are not functioning.
