Engineering Excellence Award - High Commendation

VRT, Citect, EDMI and the Department of Defence are the proud recipients of a High Commendation awarded by the Queensland Division of Engineers Australia. The award was presented in Brisbane on Friday 22nd August 2003 at a gala evening held to recognise and celebrate the outstanding engineering projects undertaken in Queensland over the past year.

VRT, Citect and EDMI formed a consortium to successfully deliver an innovative project for the Department of Defence. The Regional Utilities Management System (RUMS) project covers the South Queensland bases of Enoggera, Amberley and Oakey and provides a unique set of management tools to help deliver sustainable energy conservation benefits to these bases.

The Department of Defence is responsible for 54% of all energy consumed directly by the Federal Government. The RUMS system will assist Defence to reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions by approximately 1,200 tonnes of CO2 p.a.

Whilst the award recognises the technical merit and social contribution of the project, it also highlights the value of partnering by specialist, local organisations to successfully deliver a complex solution. On the basis of this success, the partners plan to pursue other facilities and energy management system projects across Australia and overseas.
