SATEC BFM Saves Metering Costs.
The need for power metering is being driven by many legislative requirements such as EEO, NGER, Greenstar, the National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS), etc., as well as the need to reduce the ever increasing cost of energy. Three phase energy meters range in price from sub $1,000 to over $11,000. Network connection costs can also be substantial. With some legislation requiring metering down to 100KVA circuits, this can represent a high meter count and consequent high cost in many cases. SATEC has a unique multi-circuit monitor, which significantly reduces metering costs in many of these situations.
The SATEC Branch Feeder Monitor (BFM136) will monitor up to 12 three-phase circuits or 36 single-phase circuits, in a single meter assembly, with a single network connection. All "virtual" meters have separate modbus addresses. The BFM measures all standard electrical parameters for power and energy, plus power factor. It also has substantial on-board memory to cater for any loss of comms. Download the BFM136 brochure here.
In simple economic terms, the crossover cost compared with individual meters is approximately the 3 three-phase meters, i.e. a BFM will typically give you 9 three-phase meters for free. Not surprisingly, VRT is finding a lot of interest in these meters. Recent customers include, Department of Defence (SuperMESS), Lang Parade (commercial building) and Queensland Government State Library.
